These are the findings of a survey of issues related to the value of modern students’ lifestyle. The researchers who conducted the survey were a group of lecturers at Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The study also showed that students change friends in different learning environments. More than half of polled students (56.1 percent) said they have fewer close friends when they are at university, but relations at university are as not as impartial, like the ones at high school or lower.
However, female university students have fewer close friends than male students (61.4 percent of female students said this vs 47.6 percent of male students).
About 1/3 of polled students said they tend to be cautious in making friends in a university environment.
Students at university make friends in groups which comprises those who have common interests or those who live near each other.
Female students at universities have fewer close friends than male students (47.6 percent vs 61.4 percent), while students have fewer close friends than their grandparents and parents. |
The team carried out studies on lifestyle; the value of friendship and love; personal and family relations; learning and work; youth and the community life; entertainment activities; and religious and political orientation.
“Our research aims to recognize the value of youth in the general awareness of social life and different manifestations of life of young people in the family, school and society from the perspective of students’ experience,” Van said.
One of the noteworthy conclusions the researchers made is that modern students attach more importance to family, work and friendship than to the meaning of the expression of social responsibility.
Elaborating on this, Van said the finding shows the ‘personalization’ trend in students’ value orientation.
Graduates more highly appreciate the significance of values of family, friend, work and serving, while students still at university attach higher importance to the issues of religion, politics and free time.
However, despite the personalization trend, students highly appreciate the value of family, which is a positive outlook. It is necessary for social organizations to create favorable conditions for youth to fulfill their social responsibility.
