VietNamNet Bridge – An eighth grader in Quang Nam province has been expelled from school for her serious misconduct of calling for anti-first semester exam actions.

Nguyen Thanh Vy, an eighth grader of the Ly Tu Trong Secondary School in Quang Nam province, posted on Facebook the “Declaration of the Ly Tu Trong Secondary School’s Students”. The entry imitating the style of the President Ho Chi Minh’s call for national resistance against enemies, called on other students to protest the first semester exams and contained the worlds slandering teachers.

Headmaster of the secondary school has been forced to recommend staying off from school for one year.

However, Vy and her parents have complained that the punishment is too heavy for her, which would deprive the student’s right to go to school. As such, Vy’s education process would be delayed for one year, which would put big difficulties for her when she makes the way in the world.

Online newspapers’ readers have got stunned when hearing about the punishment.

Le Huu Minh Tuan, a reader from Quang Nam province, wrote to Phap luat Vietnam newspaper that it is an anti-pedagogical method to expel the student who made mistakes from school. “This shows the incapability of the teachers of the Ly Tu Trong Secondary School in particular, and the Tam Ky district’s education in general.

Tran Anh Kiet form HCM City has agreed that this is a too heavy punishment on Vy. He said that Vy is just a secondary school student, who may act slightly without thinking carefully. Therefore, she needs to receive care and education from teachers now, the things that she would not have if she has to stay off from school.

Kiet also thinks that it’d be better not to accuse Vy of distorting history when she imitated the words in the President Ho Chi Minh’s call for national resistance. In fact, Vy simply copied the words which have been existing for a long time and orally handed down among students, while she did not think carefully about the possible consequences of her behavior.

The Headmaster of the Ly Tu Trong Secondary School Nguyen Tan Si, in the latest interview given to a local newspaper, said he heard the comments about his decision, but he still believes that he has made a right decision.

Sy said he gathered three meetings with the teachers before making such a decision. Eight out of the nine members of the school’s discipline council voted for the decision.

Vy is not an obedient student at the school. Three days ago, Vy was disciplined for fighting a classmate. Prior to that, Vy also had serious misconducts and she has not changed even though the school many times gave advices and asked her to improve herself.

“We met Vy’s parents three times, and they committed to join forces with the school to educate Vy. However, Vy has many times repeated offences.

“Vy did not simply copied the words of the “declaration”, but she rewrote and edited the words before posting on Facebook, which shows that she did this for deliberate purpose,” Sy commented.

The headmaster has warned parents that this is a new kind of misconduct, and that the parents need to keep an eye on their children to prevent possible unreasonable actions.

Le Van Chinh, Deputy Director of the Quang Nam provincial education, denied to make comments about the case, but said this should be seen as the alert for students and their parents in the digital era.
