Pho Ong Do, a street lined with calligraphers’ stands, has been opened on Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, becoming a new destination for locals and tourists ahead of Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.
Pham Ngoc Thach Street has been decorated with brilliant yellow apricot blossoms before Tet. Girls in charming Ao dais (Vietnamese traditional long dress) take photographs. Hand-made flowers signals the beginning of spring while, apricot symbolizes the traditional Tet festival in the southern region. Calligraphers in traditional Vietnamese costumes showcase their calligraphy skills and works on paper, rocks, wood or bamboo. Clay statues are on display. A girl models in an Ao dai. Calligraphers write words or phrases that mean good luck, health, peace or prosperity at guests’ request. A fair showcasing rural products and souvenirs is held on Pham Ngoc Thach Street.
