Long An signs on three new players
Dong Tam Long An have signed on Ganiyu Bolayi Oseni, Tran Chi Cong and Nguyen Dinh Hiep to strengthen their power for the second leg of V-League.
The Southern team's poor performance in the national premier league has got them the second place from the bottom. After 11 games, Long An earned only five points from five draws.
Oseni has played in Viet Nam for Kien Giang and Hoang Anh Gia Lai in 2012 and 2013. He scored 23 goals before leaving for Turkey's Kahramanmarasspor club. He returned to Viet Nam recently.
Hiep is coming to Long An on loan from Becamex Binh Duong and can play as a midfielder and striker.
Former national team halfback Cong was not being utilised in Binh Duong.
Long An's managers are hunting for candidates to fill the other positions.
Da Nang tests foreign strikers
Eimantas Mazoras (Lithuania), Davison Santos (Brazil) and Rafael Soriano (Spain) have been training with SHB Da Nang football team in the hope of replacing the position held by Argentine striker Gaston Sebastian Merlo.
The team ended a one-year contract with the Argentine striker last month when he failed to recover from a knee injury.
The central team will also end a contract with Serbian striker Bojan Mamic, 36, who has performed poorly.
SHB currently ranked sixth in the national football championship, V-League with 15 points after 10 matches.
National badminton tourney opens
The National Badminton Clubs Championship will be held in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, tomorrow.
Athletes will compete in two age groups, 15-30 and 31-55. The knock-out rule will be applied for the first group competition while the second group will play in a round-robin format.
The finals are scheduled on April 26.
HCM City score national tennis title
HCM City won the National Team Tennis Championships for the third straight year yesterday, setting a national record.
On the final day of the championship held in Hue, the HCM City men's team beat Ca Mau 2-1 in a thriller.
In the first singles match, Pham Huu Vinh of HCM City lost 5-7, 1-6 to Ngo Quang Huy of Ca Mau.
Vinh's teammate, national first runner-up Nguyen Hoang Thien, levelled the result after his rival Lam Quang Tri withdrew because of injury. The scores were level at 6-7, 7-6.
In the decisive doubles match, HCM City also saw one of the Ca Mau players suffer stomach cramps and fail to continue, forcing Ca Mau to settle for the silver medal.
The Da Nang 1 and Military 1 teams shared the third place.
On Wednesday, the HCM City female players also set a record by becoming the first team to win the title three years in a row.
