Billiards Cueists to compete for individual title in Seoul

Three Vietnamese cueists will take part in the three-cushion Individuals World Championship to be held in Seoul, South Korea, from November 26 to 30.

Forty-eight competitors from four continents and 30 countries will take part in the 16-group tournament.

Ma Xuan Cuong is in Group B, while Nguyen Quoc Nguyen is in Group G and Tran Quyet Chien in Group P.

The players will compete in a round-robin competition first, with the top cueists advancing to the next round.

Dong Thap grab two gold medals in cycling

Dong Thap Province yesterday (Nov 17) won two cycling titles at the ongoing National Games in Nam Dinh.

Le Ngoc Son took the men's individual road race with a time of 3hr 40.03min. Teammate Nguyen Truong Tai came in second followed by Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang Province.

Son and Tai went up the podium a second time as Dong Thap also took the team event with a time of 11:03.06. HCM City won the silver and the Military won the bronze medal.

Starting today, athletes will compete in two-day mountain cycling events. Afterwards, they will compete in downhill and cross-country competitions.

Run for Peace 2014 in Hanoi

Nearly 70 domestic and international runners as well as teachers and pupils of Ngo Sy Lien and Tran Phu schools joined Run for Peace 2014 in Hanoi on November 17.

Organised by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Peace Run Organisation, the event aims to promote peace, international solidarity, mutual understanding and exchange among nations and contribute to raising humankind awareness of peace.

At the opening ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Municipal Department of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do welcomed all domestic and international runners and spoke highly of Peace Run Organisation’s choosing Vietnam as a destination of its Asia-Pacific relay.

Salil Wilson, Peace Run representative said the run in Vietnam is part of the Asia-Pacific relay through 13 countries, which started in Russia and ended in Vietnam and Australia simultaneously. Eight runners representing people of 13 countries came to Vietnam this time to celebrate the success of the Asia-Pacific relay.

VUFO Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hoang Van emphasised that by coordinating with Peace Run to hold the event in Vietnam, VUFO wants to send a message of peace and solidarity to all international friends and peace loving people around the world in the hope of bringing peace to humankind.
