AFC bans six players for match rigging
Six players from the Dong Nai Football Club (FC) have been prohibited from playing continental matches until January 23, 2015, according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Earlier on July 23, 2014, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) imposed suspension on the players from domestic football matches for allegedly fixing a league game between Quang Ninh Coal FC and Dong Nai FC held in Cam Pha stadium in Quang Ninh province on July 20, 2014.
Hosts Brazil outclass Viet Nam at Futsal Grand Prix
Viet Nam lost to defending champions Brazil 1-8 in their first match of the International Futsal Grand Prix in Brazil yesterday, Nov 13.
The hosts took control of the match from the first minute and scored 4-0 in the first half, however Long Vu narrowed the gap for Viet Nam to 4-1.
Brazil continued showing their level after scoring four more goals in the second half.
Viet Nam will meet Colombia tomorrow.
The tournament, which will last until this Sunday, features six teams, including hosts Brazil, who are in Group A with Viet Nam, and Colombia. Group B has Iran, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
AFC extends suspensions for Dong Nai match-fixing culprits
The chairman of the AFC Disciplinary Committee has extended the suspension of six Vietnamese players from V-League's Dong Nai Club.
The order takes effect at confederation level in accordance with sanctions issued by the Vietnamese Football Federation (VFF) Disciplinary Committee.
The action was undertaken following a request from the VFF based on Article 136 of the AFC Disciplinary Code.
Each extension shall expire on January 23 or the issuing of a final decision by the VFF Disciplinary Committee, whichever is sooner.
On July 23, the VFF Disciplinary Committee temporarily suspended six players from taking part in any kind of football-related activity following investigations by the Viet Nam Office of Investigation Police (C45) on allegations of match fixing.
The six players, including the team captain, were arrested after Dong Nai's V-League match defeated Quang Ninh Coal on July 20 at the Cam Pha Stadium in Quang Ninh Province.
Celebrity raises money for youth football
The superstar of Vietnamese football, Nguyen Hong Son has teamed up to sponsor a youth football squad to compete at a tourney set for November 22 in Incheon, the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The celebrity has recognized that it is going to be a challenge to match the achievements of the ‘golden generation’ who played Vietnamese football in the 1990s.
He has joined to support youth football as he believes it is necessary for them to play in regional competitions to learn the best techniques to be successful and replace the 1990 generation.
On the occasion, it was announced the young players would visit Incheon Stadium, which hosted the 2002 World Cup, and meet with Lee Ul Young, a well-known football player in the RoK.
It was also announced the children would join in entertainment activities at Lotte World, Jamsil aquarium, and the Namsan observatory tower and participate in tours of Incheon.
