On the morning of December 20, the State Council for Acceptance of Construction Works met to check the Son La hydropower project.
As being reported by the investor, the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), by the time of acceptance, the plant was built in accordance with the design specifications. All six turbines were completed. The auxiliary system and the pumping station have been operating for two years. The deep discharge device operates well, without any abnormal phenomenon. Earlier, the State Council for Acceptance of Construction Works allowed the plant to store water from May 2012.
According to the consulting company – the Institute of Hydraulic Design of Moscow, they checked the reliability and stability of the Son La hydropower and identified that all indexes are beyond the safety of the work. In regards to the recently-reported cracks, the consultant said that they "do not affect the durability of the dam."
The representative of the State Council for Acceptance of Construction Work’s expertise team, Mr. Huynh Ba Ky Thuat, said the geological ground of the Son La hydropower plant meets the design requirements and is eligible to be operated.
On behalf of the State Council for Acceptance of Construction Works, Chairman of the Board, Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that the Son La hydropower plant is the national key project that is not only significant in terms of economics but also in its position so the safety is top priority.
Dung affirmed that the plant meets the design requirements and conditions to be put into use. The completion of 3 years ahead of schedule benefits the country with $2 billion.
The construction of the Son La hydroelectric plant started on December 2, 2005, with designed capacity of 2.400MW, total investment of nearly VND60.2 trillion (over $3 billion). According to plan, the plant will be completed in 2015.
