 VietNamNet Bridge – Farmers in Bac Lieu Province are expanding their white-legged shrimp ponds in unzoned areas despite warnings from local authorities that it could damage the environment and cause outbreaks of disease.

The increase in farming shrimp in ponds in coastal areas has contributed to the displacement of forests that once protected people from sand and floods in the central province of Quang Nam and the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu.

 VietNamNet Bridge – The coastal pine trees which have been existing for many years in Quang Nam--to protect the houses and villages, have been chopped down to give place to shrimp ponds.
