Workers at the construction site of the Ben Thanh underground station of metro line No. 1. Work on the project has lagged far behind schedule
|
Specifically, the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway project is over 77% complete, though work is 11.6% slower than expected, while construction on the Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway is 27% slower than planned, Thanh Nien Online newspaper reported.
As for the Cat Linh- Ha Dong urban railway project in Hanoi, 99% of the work has been completed. The project has been operated on a trial basis, but its official start date remains unknown, as the project has yet to be certified as safe.
Work on the elevated railway started in October 2011 and was initially scheduled for completion in 2013. However, several hurdles, including loan disbursement issues that were only resolved in December 2017, stalled work on the project for years.
In addition, the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway project, also in Hanoi, is 63% complete and is expected to be completed in 2022.
Meanwhile, work on the city’s metro line No. 1 project linking Yen Vien and Ngoc Hoi stations has yet to begin.
The two metro line projects in HCMC face the same fate, including the first metro line project connecting Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Suoi Tien Park in District 9, and the second metro line project linking Ben Thanh Market and Tham Luong Depot in District 12.
The first metro line project is 66.7% complete, while only two packages for the second metro line project in the city---the office building and the depot---have been finished. The city is choosing contractors for the remaining packages.
The Ministry of Transport has prepared a report on the execution of the next steps for these projects and will submit it to the Government. SGT
