On January 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Management Board, in collaboration with the Department of Transport and Binh Tan District, held a ceremony to open the Tan Ky Tan Quy Bridge.

This new reinforced concrete bridge spans a total length of 385 meters, including an 83-meter main bridge with four automobile lanes, two pedestrian sidewalks, and two access roads totaling 367 meters.

Additionally, 86 meters of prestressed concrete embankments have been built along both sides of the Tham Luong Canal.

The project began in September 2016 as a build-operate-transfer (BOT) initiative, replacing the aging Tan Ky Tan Quy Bridge, which had been in use since before 1975. Structural issues, including subsidence in August 2016, necessitated its replacement.

In September 2022, the city shifted from the BOT model to public investment, resuming the project with a total cost of nearly 491 billion VND.

Enhancing traffic connectivity

The new bridge connects seamlessly with Tan Ky Tan Quy Road, completed in late 2024, forming a vital transportation corridor linking National Highway 1 with Tan Son Nhat Airport and the city center.

Phó Chủ tịch UBND TPHCM Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that the bridge plays a crucial role in easing congestion, improving the regional traffic network, and contributing to economic and social development.

The project also marks a significant milestone as the city’s first infrastructure project to transition from a public-private partnership to public investment.

Upcoming projects before Tet At Ty

In addition to the Tan Ky Tan Quy Bridge, the city aims to open seven more key infrastructure projects by Tet At Ty 2025:

January 23: Completion of Hoang Hoa Tham Street and the first phase of the Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa Road connection, including elevated and ground-level connections to Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

January 26: Opening of Luong Dinh Cua Street (from Tran Nao Street to Nguyen Hoang Street).

January 27: Completion of the first phase of Duong Quang Ham Street and the Tăng Long Bridge (single-span structure). Additionally, the Nguyen Van Linh-Nguyen Huu Tho interchange and the Ba Hom Bridge will be fully operational.

These projects are expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the city’s infrastructure, addressing the growing demands of urbanization and transportation.
