This is the second fishing boat from Ly Son to be attacked by Chinese ships in the past three days.
According to Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Chairman of An Hai fishing Union, the QNg 96147-TS, captained by Duong Van Giau, was chased by a Chinese warship before being attacked by two speedboats deployed from the ships.
After coming alongside Captain Giau’s boat, crewmen from the Chinese speedboats jumped into the vessel, used electrified shock batons to beat fishermen, destroyed all communication devices and took away all the collected sea cucumbers on board, he said.
The case occurred on May 7 at 15 degrees 45 minutes north latitude and 112 degrees 20 minutes east longitude within the Hoang Sa Archipelago of Vietnam, said Giau.
Due to losing all channels of communication, the boat could not call for help and kept on floating at sea until the afternoon of May 9 when another fishing boat from Ly Son detected it.
