VietNamNet Bridge – At noon on November 3, a terrifying attack with acid occurred in HCM City. A man threw acid at a group of five girls who were catching a cab on Nguyen Van Cu Road, District 5. The attack also affected three others.

At 12.45pm, a group of five girls were about to get in a taxi to return when a young man on an Air Blade motorcycle approached and threw a mug of acid onto the girls.

The victims fled. Two of them ran to a lottery ticket stall to hide but they were chased by the attacker, who threw the remaining acid in the mug onto them.

At this time, the ticket booth hostess – Mrs. Tang Thuy Ha and two kids of 11 years old, who were standing beside the booth, were also affected.

After the attack, the man drove his motorcycle to escape. Some people chased after him. He was arrested in District 8.

The eight victims were brought to the hospital. Three girls in the worst situation were transferred to the Cho Ray Hospital.

The police said that the attacker is Nguyen Van Dung, 30 years old, from Ben Tre province.

Dung said that he was jobless and temporarily resided in District 8. Previously, his family did business with the family of Ms. Hong Kim Huoi, 23, from Kien Giang. Dung fell in love with Huoi but she did not. Hearing that Huoi was about to return home for her betrothal ceremony, Dung planned to kill his “lover in dream.”

The attack occurred at noon November 3 when Huoi and four other relatives were about to get in a cab to the airport to return to her hometown on Phu Quoc Island. The victims are Huoi, her 18-year-old younger sister, her 17-year-old cousin, two other relatives, a lottery ticket seller and two kids.

As most seriously injured victim, Huoi was brought to the biggest hospital in HCM City, with 30 percent of her body burned, including the face, the arms and the thighs.

Huoi’s fiancé – Dang Minh Tri, 22, said he and Huoi have been in relationship for more than two years. Their betrothal ceremony was planned on November 5. According to Tri, Dung liked Huoi but Huoi did not like him. Dung used to threaten Huoi by text messages. He once stopped Huoi on the road and menaced to throw paint at Huoi’s motorcycle.

Being fearful of Dung’s acts, Huoi did not dare to go to her company alone, but with her fiancé or a motorcycle taxi driver. For the last several months, she lived at her company with her siblings.
