The first national 135-cc motor race, which was to be part of the first round of the National Championship 2014, was scheduled to take place on April 27 at a section of road along Hung Vuong Avenue in the new centre of Binh Duong City. As the crowd flowed onto the raceway a Malaysian driver tried to reason with them, but most in the crowd reportedly laughed at him.

The spectators' behaviour resulted in the cancellation of the 400-metre drag race.

Vo Hoa Son, a Vietnamese driver who was to take part, said, “The location is nice but it is obviously not a good place to hold a major race because of the behaviour the crowd showed."

This is not the first time that Vietnamese spectators acted offensively to foreigners. Another such incident recently occured at Cau Giay Stadium, stirring up public concern over the behaviour by Vietnamese audiences.

At the final match of the Expanded Ciputra Hanoi Badminton Tournament held on March 30 at Cau Giay Stadium, many spectators took advantage of the lack of organisation to rush the court. One of the audience members even grabbed a racket from a female Japanese player.

After the competition, Pham Cao Cuong, one of the young Vietnamese athletes said on his website that he felt embarrassed by the behaviour and that it would have a negative effect on the image of Vietnamese people abroad.
