Act I

A rustic village
Giselle, a beautiful young girl who enjoys life is adored by her native villagers and Grant, the village gamekeeper, is desperately in love with her.
To go on a hunt, prince Albrecht disguises himself as a peasant and is captivated by Giselle’s frail beauty and innocence. First love and dance steps make them fall deeply in love.
Grant is filled with suspicion and jealousy. He exposes Albrecht’s disguise and proclaims that Albrecht is already betrothed. Overwhelmingly distraught and horrified, Giselle dies of a broken heart.

Act II

A forest clearing
Nightly, the Wilis who are ghosts of abandoned brides rise from the grave to prey on the men who wronged them. 
Albrecht, laden of feelings of guilt and remorse, visits Gissele’s grave. The leader of Wilis discovers Albrecht and demands that he share the same fate as Grant but is unable to permeate the invisible bond of love that Giselle has for him.
Love conquers all, even death.
