The reduction of robbery crimes in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), with swift resolutions often within hours, has helped erase negative perceptions among residents and tourists visiting the city.

This was shared by Major General Mai Hoang, Deputy Director of HCMC Police, during a conference on December 18 summarizing 2024’s efforts in Party building, government operations, and public engagement.

Major General Mai Hoang reported that social order in HCMC remained stable in 2024, with a notable decline in crimes against public order. The police's rapid handling of robbery cases has contributed to reshaping the city’s image positively.

In the fight against drug-related crimes, HCMC police uncovered 3,174 cases involving 7,975 suspects, marking a 49% increase in cases compared to 2023.

A highlight was the successful dismantling of the VN10 drug trafficking network, which had connections to four flight attendants. This operation led to the arrest of suspects across 500 drug trafficking rings, with over 1,000 individuals charged. Authorities seized 316 kilograms of drugs, 10 firearms, and uncovered transactions worth over VND 28 trillion.

“This year, we aim to reach 1,200 prosecutions in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army,” stated Major General Mai Hoang.

The VN10 operation was highly praised by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Public Security.

Robbery crimes have decreased significantly, with swift resolutions that bolster the city's reputation among both local and international visitors.

Additionally, police cracked down on illegal lending operations, addressing 701 cases involving over VND 13 trillion in high-interest loans. Acts of harassment, such as threatening phone calls, vandalism with paint or chemicals, have been effectively eliminated in the city.
