A new Spring season is upon us, bringing with it joy and renewed vitality across the nation. This Spring is even more meaningful as the entire Party, people, and military of Vietnam celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (03/02/1930 – 03/02/2025), a bright milestone marking the country's entry into a new phase of development toward a radiant future.
Over the past 95 Springs, our Party - the vanguard of the working class, the laboring people, and the Vietnamese nation - has led the country through countless hardships and challenges, achieving great victories and remarkable accomplishments, leaving an indelible mark on the glorious history of our people.
In 1930, the Communist Party of Vietnam was born in a special historical context and with a special mission. Since the mid-19th century, French colonialism invaded our country, imposing brutal domination that subjected our people to slavery and misery. With a strong tradition of patriotism and an unyielding spirit, our people rose up, engaging in continuous and vigorous struggles through various movements, from the Can Vuong movement to the Yen The uprising, from the Dong Du, Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc, Duy Tan movements to the Yen Bai uprising. Our people fought valiantly, enduring many sacrifices, but all failed because there was no clear path, no unification to harness the strength of the entire nation, and no appropriate method or leadership organization to meet the nation's needs and the demands of the time.
At the same time, globally, the rise of the workers' movement and the success of the October Revolution in Russia in 1917 opened a new horizon, igniting hope for oppressed and exploited nations and vigorously supporting independence movements across continents.
Faced with the demands of history and burning with a desire to liberate the nation, the patriotic youth Nguyen Tat Thanh set off to seek a way to save the country. He traveled across continents, through nearly 30 countries and hundreds of cities, enduring hardships, and working many jobs to survive and learn the valuable wisdom of humanity.

This journey helped the young Vietnamese understand that the root cause of the suffering of the working classes was the oppression and exploitation of imperial capitalism, which shaped his class consciousness. With the determination to achieve: “Freedom for my people, independence for my country,” Nguyen Tat Thanh naturally came to Marxism-Leninism as a historical necessity, finding in it the fundamental issues of the national liberation path linked with class liberation, human liberation, and national independence linked with socialism.
In response to historical demands and under the guiding light of Marxism-Leninism, the young Nguyen Tat Thanh, later known as Nguyen Ai Quoc, carried out many activities, thoroughly preparing both in terms of ideology and practice for the birth of a pioneering political organization to lead the Vietnamese revolution. He spread Marxism-Leninism to Vietnam through works such as The Colonialism Trial (1925), The Revolutionary Path (1927), trained revolutionary cadres, and promoted the struggle movement in the country.
On 03/02/1930, in Kowloon (Hong Kong, China), under the chairmanship of Comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc, a conference was held to unify the three communist organizations in Vietnam, forming the Communist Party of Vietnam. This was a historic decision, uniting the Vietnamese communist organizations into a single force with a clear, unified revolutionary path.
The Party's first platform, adopted at the founding conference, set the basic path of the Vietnamese revolution, meeting the urgent demands of history and becoming the banner for uniting all communist organizations, revolutionary forces, and the entire nation. This historic event ended the crisis of revolutionary direction and organization in Vietnam, ushering in a new era in our history - an era of fighting for national independence and progressing toward socialism.
Since its founding, with the correct direction, appropriate methods, creativity, practical organizational ability, and the indomitable courage and sacrifice of many generations of cadres, Party members, and the people's love, protection, and trust, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led the country to monumental historical and contemporary victories.

In just 15 years after its founding, our Party continuously developed and led the struggle for national liberation, achieving the victory of the August Revolution, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on 02/09/1945, abolishing the semi-feudal colonial regime in Vietnam, and opening a new chapter in the nation's history. The Vietnamese people, once slaves, became masters of the country, masters of society, and of their own lives.
Immediately following the success of the August Revolution, our country faced countless difficulties and challenges. At the same time, it had to confront the "famine, illiteracy, and foreign invaders." In the precarious situation of the “sword hanging by a thread,” the Party led our people to steadfastly defend and build the young government, while actively preparing for the resistance against French colonialism. With the correct path, drawing upon the strength of the entire nation, our Party led our people to success, defeating every plot and invasion strategy of the enemy in nine years of arduous and heroic resistance, culminating in the historic victory at Dien Bien Phu, forcing the French to sign the Geneva Accords (1954) on peace in Indochina.
For more than two decades afterward, our country was divided, and peace had not yet been achieved. Under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, with unwavering resolve and determination, the Vietnamese people overcame immense hardship and sacrifice, carrying out a heroic resistance, defeating the strategies of American imperialism, liberating the South, and reunifying the country, writing one of the most heroic chapters in our nation's history. This was an event of international significance and deep historical relevance. It was the realization of the vision and determination that our Party presented at the Third Party Congress (September 1960): “Our Vietnam is one, our Vietnamese people are one. Our country will definitely be unified based on independence and democracy. Our people will be reunited in peace, freedom, and happiness. Rivers can dry, mountains can erode, but the will to unite our country will never falter, and we will inevitably win.”
While urgently addressing the immense consequences of war, our country again had to face new challenges. The Party continued to lead the entire army and people to rebuild the economy and society, raise the people's living standards, and steadfastly defend every inch of our sacred land, protecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the very existence of the nation, while fulfilling the noble international duty to the people of Cambodia.
In response to the new demands for national development, in order to overcome the shortcomings of the centralized planning mechanism and the crisis of the socio-economic situation after the war, based on summarizing the practical leadership innovations of the Party, the Party formulated and implemented a comprehensive renewal policy, marking an important turning point in Vietnam's transition to socialism. The renewal policy emerged to meet the requirements of the ongoing development of the country's economy, national defense, security, foreign relations, and reflected the Party's solid capability and creative thinking, opening a new period for the nation's development.
After nearly 40 years of implementing the renewal policy under the Party's leadership, our country has overcome all difficulties, achieving great and historically significant successes. From a poor, war-torn country isolated and besieged, Vietnam has become a developing nation with a middle-income status, deeply integrated into the global political, economic, and cultural systems, assuming many important international responsibilities, playing an active role in numerous international organizations and multilateral forums. Independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity have been preserved; the interests of the nation and the people are guaranteed. In 2024, the national economy reached over 470 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world and among the top 20 economies in terms of trade and foreign investment attraction.
The lives of the people have greatly improved, with the poverty rate sharply reduced to just 1.93% (according to multi-dimensional standards), compared to 60% in 1986. The political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, national defense, and security potentials continue to grow. The foreign relations landscape is constantly expanding; the nation's position and prestige are spreading, with contributions to resolving regional and global issues. Vietnam has performed various tasks as a member of ASEAN, the United Nations, and other international organizations, with the international community recognizing and highly evaluating these efforts.
The great achievements of the Vietnamese revolution over the past 95 years have stemmed from many factors, with the Party's wise and correct leadership being the foremost factor, along with the sacrifices, struggle, and creative labor of the entire people and military under the Party's leadership and the support from international friends. During difficult and challenging times, our Party has shown its strength, unity of will and action, leading and directing the entire political system to achieve monumental and comprehensive successes in all fields.
At the same time, through the process of leading the revolution, our Party has been tempered and has matured, growing stronger and more capable, worthy of its leadership role and the trust of the people. This practice affirms: In Vietnam, no political force other than the Communist Party of Vietnam possesses the capacity, strength, intellect, experience, and prestige to lead the country through all difficulties and challenges, guiding the national revolution from victory to victory.
Looking back on the 95 years of building, fighting, and maturing of the Communist Party of Vietnam, we express our profound gratitude and respect for the great President Ho Chi Minh - the genius leader, the national liberation hero, who paved the revolutionary path, bringing glory to our country. We also respectfully remember the Party's senior leaders, the heroic martyrs, and the people who fought courageously and sacrificed their lives in the glorious revolutionary cause for the independence and freedom of the nation, for socialism, and for the peaceful, happy, and prosperous life of the people.
The Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam will always remember the contributions of those who served the country, the families of martyrs, the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor, war invalids, former prisoners of colonial and imperialist prisons, and the soldiers who fought on all fronts and fulfilled their noble international duties. We also always express our gratitude to our international friends who have always stood by, supported, and helped the people of Vietnam in the struggle for national independence, and continue to cooperate and support us in the construction and development of the country today.
Looking back on the glorious and proud tradition of the Party over the past 95 years, we see even more clearly the responsibility of the current leadership generation and Party members in the ongoing historical process of the nation. The mission of the Party today is to lead the country into a new development era, an era of wealth and strength. Our goal is to successfully build a socialist Vietnam, where the people are prosperous, the country is strong, democratic, fair, and civilized, standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents; ensuring that every citizen enjoys a warm and happy life, with opportunities for development and prosperity; contributing more to the peace, stability, and development of the region and the world, for the happiness of humanity and global civilization.

Our top priority is to successfully achieve the strategic goals set for 2030, where Vietnam will become a developing country with a modern industry and high average income. By 2045, we aim to become a developed socialist country with high income.
To continue carrying out this historic responsibility, the Party must continuously grow stronger, maintain its revolutionary nature, enhance its leadership capabilities, governance, combat strength, and deep ties with the people. The Party must always renew itself, maintain internal discipline, promote democracy within the Party, and build a strong and clean cadre system, resolutely upholding the goals and ideals of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought.
At the same time, the Party must continue improving its theory, enhance the quality of ideological work, and create a solid foundation for guiding the country’s rapid and sustainable development. Given the new demands of the revolutionary cause, especially in the context of deep international integration and global challenges, Party building work must be even more focused on innovation and implementation, addressing key issues as follows:
The Party does not exist for its own interests but works for the benefit of the entire people. Its leadership power is not inherent but granted by the people through their trust.
The Party’s goal is to fight for the interests of the people, the country, and the nation.
President Ho Chi Minh emphasized: “The Party is not an organization to make officials rich. It must fulfill its mission of liberating the nation and making the country prosperous, ensuring the people’s happiness.” Therefore, the Party must always be closely connected with the people, with the highest goal of serving their interests, maintaining its revolutionary nature, and its vanguard role.
Our Party’s founding mission is to lead the revolution and represent the interests of the working class, the laboring people, and the entire Vietnamese nation. From the first days of the independence struggle to its role as the ruling party, the Party has always been resolute in its goal of national liberation, building socialism, and bringing prosperity and happiness to the people. The Party's leadership power does not come from itself, but is granted by the people, who entrust it with the duty of serving the nation’s welfare.
A solid theoretical foundation is the guiding principle for the Party’s actions, determining the correctness of its leadership path and strategies for national development. Over the past 95 years of leading the revolution, the Party has developed crucial lessons on the path to socialism, the model of a socialist-oriented market economy, building a socialist rule of law state, and ensuring national defense, security, and foreign relations.
This is a decisive task for the Party's survival and development. The Party must continuously strengthen unity, enhance leadership capacity, and ensure its members and organizations are clean, strong, and firmly connected with the people.
The Party must focus on simplifying and streamlining the political system, improving the efficiency of its operations. Over the past few congresses, Party documents have emphasized the need to reduce administrative layers and create a more efficient and responsive governance model, addressing outdated and ineffective structures.
The development and integration of the country demand that our cadre system, especially key cadres, meet high standards. They must possess political strength, integrity, creativity, and a deep commitment to serving the public, with no personal or corrupt motives.
Advances in information technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation are transforming every aspect of society. Applying these technologies in Party building is essential for improving the Party's leadership capabilities and effectiveness.
The key tasks for the Party's organizations at all levels, each Party branch, and every Party member in 2025 should focus on using their strength and intelligence, alongside the people, to fulfill and exceed the targets outlined in the resolutions of the Party committees at all levels. Special attention should be given to economic and social development targets; organizing Party congresses at all levels, preparing for the 14th National Congress of the Party; contributing ideas to the Party's document content; selecting the most exemplary individuals, dedicated to the country and the people, to participate in the political system at all levels; and creating a truly democratic, united atmosphere, where everyone is actively engaged in labor, production, and the development of their homeland and country.
Reflecting on the 95 years of growth and maturity of the Party, we have every reason to be proud and fully confident in the radiant future of the Party and our nation. In 1945, when leading the entire population to successfully execute the August Revolution, our Party had only about 5,000 members, but with the correct path, unwavering spirit, and love for the nation, the Party led the people to a glorious victory, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. By 1960, when the country entered the long-term resistance against American imperialism, the number of Party members had risen to approximately 500,000, becoming the core force leading the entire nation in the struggle for independence and national reunification.
Today, with over 5.4 million members, our Party's strength continues to grow in both number and quality, fully capable of carrying the responsibility of leading the country in the new era. Every Party member is a symbol of the trust, intellect, and unity of the entire nation. The Communist Party of Vietnam, under the light of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, will continue to fulfill its historical mission with excellence.
With confidence in the strength of the Party and the unity of the entire nation, we affirm that: the entire Party, people, and military will unite to overcome all difficulties and challenges, driving the country to rapid and sustainable development in the new era, building a glorious, radiant future for the Vietnamese people.
To Lam
General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam
