VietNamNet Bridge - Fishermen and relevant agencies of the central province of Quang Binh successfully rescued a whale of more than one ton that was caught in a net today, May 22.

At 7.15am, fishermen Ngo Van Thuan and Ngo Van Thuy discovered a whale of about 5m long, 1m wide, caught in nets in the sea of Ngu Thuy Cung commune, Quang Binh Province. They pulled the animal to the shore and reported to the local authorities.
The same morning, the local authorities rescued the whale and released it back to the sea safely.
Mr. Ngo Gia Ngai, Chair of Ngu Thuy Cung Commune, said preserving and rescuing endangered sea animals are always respected by local people.
Late last year, a sea turtle of 300-400 kg that was caught in the nets of local fishermen was also released back to the ocean.
On May 21, an injured whale drifted on the shore of Duy Hai Commune in Duy Xuyen District, the central province of Quang Nam. The animal is 4m long and about one ton in weight.

Soon after finding the animal, local fishermen pulled the whale back to the sea. However, the animal could not swim because of severe wounds.
On the morning of May 22, the whale drifted on shore again but it was very weak. The animal died soon after.
The local government and people are holding a funeral for the whale tomorrow, May 23.
