Andy Dang Quang Anh won a silver medal at the Kids Golf World Championships in Malaysia yesterday.
The Vietnamese fired an 89-under-par 127, leaving behind 13 golfers and came in second behind Pongsapak Laopakdee of Thailand (98-under-par 118) in the Cempaka Back Boy 8 category.
Anh is the only representative among seven from Viet Nam who reached the top three positions.
The eight-year-old started to play golf three years ago and took a second-place ranking at a national tournament for under-11 year old children.
Held in Asia for the first time, after being hosted in the US and Europe, the World Championship was a special opportunity for boys and girls between ages five to 18 years old to play in an international competition.
The competition, organised by the US Kids Golf Foundation and the RSH (Malaysia) SDN BHD Group, has attracted hundreds of athletes from different countries, including Singapore, Thailand, Italy and South Africa. The young golfers compete in age groups ranging from seven-and-under to 15-17.
The tournament ends today with a Ryder Cup Format play.
