Some more would be relocated in the coming days, Chairman of People's Committee of Tam Sơn Commune Huynh Hung said yesterday, August 17.
Hùng said over the past few days, local residents had ‘attacked' bee farms, saying the bees were ruining their crops.
According to the provincial agriculture department, local authorities held talks to explain the benefits of bee-keeping activities, but the residents did not co-operate with them. The residents threatened to take serious action if the bee farm owners continued to stay in the area.
"More than 40 people came to smash the bee-keeping boxes on August 8, as they were afraid the bees could harm their crops. They threatened to return and damage the farm if the farm owners did not shift to other places," Le Loc Quan, the leader of a bee-keeping team in the commune, told vnexpress.net.
Quan said dozens of people came to damage the bee boxes and spray insecticides to kill the bees in his farm.
Quan said his company operated bee farms in several provinces, but the local people there had never complained about it.
"It is hard to move out a great number of beehives as we have just moved to this area," he said.
