At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' regular press conference on June 22, responding to questions about Vietnam's reaction to the US State Department's 2023 Report on the situation of human trafficking in the world, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said:

The Government of Vietnam advocates promoting legal, safe and orderly migration, and resolutely fights against illegal migration, smuggling of migrants and human trafficking.

Over the past time, Vietnam has continued to drastically implement a program on human trafficking prevention and fighting for the 2021-2025 period, with orientations toward 2030.

This program has achieved many important results such as strengthening inter-sectoral coordination, improving statistical work, accelerating investigation and handling of human trafficking crimes, and strengthening communications to enhance public awareness of anti-human trafficking.

Vietnam is making efforts to reach the targets of the Global Agreement on Lawful, Safe, and Orderly Migration, which is the first inter-governmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, covering all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner.

Vietnam is also implementing a plan issued by the Prime Minister in March 2020, focusing on strengthening a transparent migration environment, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of migrants, and preventing the risk of human trafficking in international migration.

Vietnam recognizes the US’s positive judgments on the world’s trafficking human situation in the 2023 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report issued by the U.S. Department of State, Hang said.

“Vietnam notes that the US has made such more positive judgments in the 2023 TIP report,” she said.

“In that spirit, we expect the two sides to continue to cooperate closely in the coming time so that the US can have a more objective, accurate, and comprehensive assessment of the situation and substantive efforts of Vietnam," she said.

Vietnam is willing to discuss with the US and other relevant parties’ cooperation in taking effective measures to fight human trafficking, she said.
