Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has choosen September 3 as Viet Nam's annual Music Day, in celebration of an event associated with the late President Ho Chi Minh.

The Viet Nam Musicians' Association earlier proposed that Music Day be commemorated on that date because President Minh conducted a chorus and led the public in singing Ket Doan (Unity) at the Botanical Gardens in honour of the third Party Congress on September 3, 1960.

In his decision, the Prime Minister required an economical and efficient organisation of the commemoration and expressed hopes that the move would motivate all music industry workers to produce beautiful works and hold numerous practical musical activities that serve the public, contribute to the education of the youth and promote solidarity for national construction and defence.

The Prime Minister also expected all organisations and individuals from all social strata to take active part in developing the country's music industry.
