Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has been appointed head of the newly formed Steering Committee for Nuclear Power Plant Construction, which includes two deputy heads and 18 members from various ministries and sectors.

The committee will advise and assist the Prime Minister in overseeing and coordinating multi-sectoral and cross-departmental efforts to advance the construction of nuclear power plants, including the continued implementation of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has been designated as Standing Deputy Head, alongside Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien as Deputy Head.

The committee includes 18 other members, such as Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat and other key leaders from various ministries.

The Prime Minister retains the authority to adjust or add members to the committee as necessary.

Relevant ministries and agencies must report any changes to their representatives on the committee to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which will consolidate and propose adjustments for the Prime Minister's approval after administrative restructuring.

Operational structure and responsibilities

The Steering Committee is supported by a working group led by a representative from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

This working group consists of experts selected by the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Minister of Science and Technology.

As the standing body of the Steering Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will utilize its existing resources to assist the committee in planning, drafting reports, and preparing recommendations for meetings.

The committee's responsibilities include:

Directing the implementation of investment policies for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.

Overseeing, inspecting, and recommending solutions to address challenges during construction.

Amending, supplementing, and refining legal regulations to ensure safety, security, and efficiency in the project.

Leading international collaborations with countries, organizations, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in developing nuclear power.

Regularly reporting to the Prime Minister on project progress and other assigned tasks.

This initiative represents a critical step forward in Vietnam's strategic plan to safely and effectively develop nuclear energy as a sustainable solution to meet the country’s growing energy demands.
