This rare occasion marked one of the few times a head of state has paid a visit to a football club in Vietnam. The visit was part of President Ndayishimiye’s broader diplomatic trip to strengthen ties between Burundi and Vietnam.

During the visit, President Ndayishimiye and the Burundian delegation toured The Cong Viettel’s Tradition Room, where they viewed historic trophies and archival footage showcasing the legacy of one of Vietnam’s oldest and most decorated football clubs.

He also explored the training and operational facilities of Viettel Sports Company, expressing particular interest in the club’s youth development programs, training philosophy, and overall club management.

"I’m truly impressed by your philosophy," President Évariste Ndayishimiye remarked. "We must maintain an open mindset and embrace innovation. And to achieve that, we must turn to sports. Sports should not be solely about high achievements - it embodies ethics, discipline, and many other human values. Sports provide guidance for the younger generation."
