VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese pop star My Tam appeared on the red carpet of the 22nd World Music Awards ceremony at the Monte Carlo Sports Club, Monaco, on Tuesday in a yellow gown. Her pictures were posted on the Twitter of the World Music Awards yesterday.
Two pop stars of Vietnam, My Tam and My Linh, were named in the category of "Best Selling Artist" for those artists with impressive album sales during the year. The two Vietnamese singers were among 62 Asian nominees. The list includes many big names such as Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, IU and Katy Perry. My Tam was also nominated for the “World’s Best Live Act” and the “World’s Best Entertainer” Awards.
My Tam received a “Best Selling Artist” award, one of 24 given out.
In 2013, My Tam was nominated for the title of World’s Best Female Artist at the World Music Awards, but didn’t win. She is also the first Vietnamese artist to be nominated for the MTV EMA.
The event had the participation of Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Jason Derulo, Fall Out Boy, Flo Rida, Ricky Martin and many other world famous singers.
The World Music Awards were launched in May 1989 to honor those artists with the bestselling albums from all continents, according to statistics of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The winners are determined through votes by the public on the internet. Awards include World’s Best Male Artist, World’s Best Female Artist, World’s Best Song, World’s Best Album, and many others
The three main categories of the World Music Awards include: Legend Awards for the artists who have greatly contributed to world music and are admired by global fans; Diamond Awards for artists who have sold more than 100 million records in their career; and Millennium Awards, for artists from many countries and territories whose albums have sold well.
Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey are the male and female singers most honored at the World Music Awards, with 16 and 12 wins, respectively. The four artists who have won the most awards in a given year are Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, 50 Cent, and Lady Gaga with five awards each in 1994, 1996, 2003 and 2010.
