VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Public Security's Police Investigation Agency last Thursday announced its decision to prosecute Vu Tien Son, Deputy Head of the Division of Social Order Crime Investigation in northern Hai Phong Port City, on a charge of "organising for people to flee the country."

Hai Phong Police spokesperson Pham Duy Dien said that Son's acts are a violation of Clause 275 of Viet Nam's Penal Code.

Son is alleged to have helped Duong Chi Dung, the former Director of the Viet Nam Maritime Department, flee the country in May after warrant for his arrest was issued on a charge of "intentionally violating State regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences" during his time at the loss-making company. Dung was finally arrested following an international manhunt that lasted several months.

Son was born in 1966 and is living with his family in Hai An District, Hai Phong City.

Son is the third person to be arrested for helping Dung escape the country. In October this year, Dong Xuan Phong, a former official of the Hai Phong Customs Office, and Vu Van Sau, former police chief of the city's An Tho Commune, were found to have forged papers helping Dung to flee the country.

The Ministry of Public Security and Hai Phong Police will continue their investigation.
