At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who holds the BRICS Chairmanship for 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the summit in Kazan, Russian Federation, from October 23-24, 2024.

As the BRICS Chair for 2024, Russia is hosting over 200 political, economic, and social events, with the BRICS Summit being the primary gathering of heads of state.

On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, President Vladimir Putin is expected to hold 20 bilateral meetings with leaders from participating nations.

The Kazan BRICS Summit is set to address key issues including energy and food security, the use of national currencies in bilateral and multilateral trade, the expansion of BRICS membership, new cooperation frameworks, collaboration in scientific research, technological innovation, and environmental protection to promote sustainable development. Discussions will also include cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

The BRICS group was initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China in 2006, with South Africa joining in 2010. Earlier this year, BRICS expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while maintaining its original name.

With the inclusion of new members in early 2024, BRICS now represents 46% of the world's population. As of the end of 2023, BRICS accounted for over 32% of global GDP, surpassing the G7 group (comprising the UK, US, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, and Italy).

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), BRICS currently contributes 36% of global GDP when measured by purchasing power parity (PPP).
