The Office of the Government has just issued an official announcement relaying the conclusions of the Government’s Standing Committee regarding the development of the expressway from Ca Mau City to Dat Mui.
According to the committee, the construction of this expressway is crucial to fully connect the eastern section of the North–South Expressway to Dat Mui and Hon Khoai Port in Ca Mau Province. This infrastructure will promote socio-economic development while strengthening national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region and across the country.
To expedite the investment process and begin construction within 2025, the Standing Committee has approved the proposal to assign the Ministry of National Defense as the investor for the Ca Mau – Dat Mui expressway.
The Ministry of Finance will lead coordination efforts with the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, and relevant agencies to complete the necessary documentation and procedures in accordance with the law.
The Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee is tasked with project implementation and land clearance to ensure the groundbreaking of the expressway project takes place before September 2.
The project will be funded through the medium-term public investment plan for 2026–2030. Preparatory investment capital for 2025 will be drawn from unallocated funds of other projects and increased revenue sources in 2024.
Under the National Road Network Plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 12 dated January 3, 2025, the Ca Mau – Dat Mui expressway is planned to span approximately 90 kilometers. It will feature four lanes and is scheduled for investment before 2030.
As planned, the Ca Mau – Dat Mui expressway will run parallel to National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh Road, reaching Rach Goc town and continuing to Dat Mui (Ngoc Hien District). This orientation is designed to leverage the advantages of the future development of Hon Khoai General Port.
Together with the east–west arterial routes, the Ca Mau – Dat Mui expressway will serve as a backbone for marine economic development, unlocking the potential and advantages of Vietnam’s southernmost tip and reinforcing national defense and security.
