Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given a nod of approval to the establishment of Hoa Lam International University of Medicine and Pharmacy invested by Hoa Lam-Shangri-La Healthcare LLC, a joint venture between Vietnam's Hoa Lam Services Co.Ltd and Singapore's Shangri-La Healthcare Investment Pte.Ltd.

Hoa Lam International University will be a fully foreign invested university operating for non-profit purposes based in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), Hoa Lam International University of Medicine and Pharmacy will be built and operated under the world advanced university governance model and under the institute-school model in compliance with international academic standards in the field of medical education.

The university will combine training with scientific research to provide high quality human resources in the area of health science to Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring provinces.

According to the MoET, Vietnam currently lacks high qualified human resources in the field of health in both public and private health sectors.

Thus, the establishment of Hoa Lam University under the world advanced model is in line with the country's orientations, contributing to promoting the training of medical workers and meeting the increasing demands of the health sector.

Earlier in November 2015, the MoET signed a decision to allow the private Hanoi University of Business and Technology to provide medical and pharmaceutical courses.

In 2011, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan also gave a nod to the Hoan My Medical Corporation to establish Hoan My Medical University, the first private medical university in Vietnam based in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City.
