VietNamNet Bridge - Constantly affected by the two last storms in 2014 and big winds early this year, the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone in Binh Dinh province in central Vietnam has been attacked by sand in recent days.

Due to bad weather, storms and high winds swept sand across the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone. The space here is always opaque, like being covered by mist.

A road in the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone. Mr. Nguyen Sang, a local resident, said sand not only flows into factories, roads and sewer systems of the economic zone but also neighboring residential areas.

Nhon Hoi Economic Zone authorities have hired dozens of workers and mobilized dozens of trucks to clean sand on the road during the past two days.

Binh Dinh authorities have explained that trees on coastal sand hills had been cut to clear land for the economic zones. As a result, sand storms occurred.

Sand thickly covers roads from the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone to Nhon Ly commune, Quy Nhon City and Cat Tien Commune of Phu Cat district. In some places, the sand layer is up to over 50cm thick.

The Management Board of Nhon Hoi Economic Zone also says that this phenomenon has caused difficulties in attracting investment. Over the years, Binh Dinh has applied various measures to deal with this, but they are less effective.

Ho Quoc Dung, chairman of Binh Dinh province, said once the petrochemical complex project is implemented, this problem will be solved because all the empty areas in the zone will be covered with facilities.
