Photos on latest developments in the waters of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago will be on display at an exhibition in Hanoi from May 28, providing vivid evidence of China ’s brazen violation of Vietnam ’s sovereignty.

The works by reporters of Thanh Nien and Tuoi tre newspapers also depict the bravery efforts of Vietnam ’s coast guard and fishery surveillance forces in safeguarding the country’s sea sovereignty.

The beauty of country’s sea and islands will also be reflected through a total of 105 photos on display, including some aerial pictures of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.

The event is organised by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists and the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, to add to the public protest against China ’s installation of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam ’s continental shelf and economic zone.

On May 2, China stationed the rig at 15 degrees 29 minutes 58 seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 12 minutes 06 seconds east longitude. The location is 80 nautical miles deep inside Vietnam ’s exclusive economic zone.

Chinese ships have repeatedly rammed and fired water cannons into Vietnamese coast guard and fisheries surveillance ships which are carrying out their law enforcement missions in the country’s waters, leaving many Vietnamese ships damaged and fisheries surveillance officers injured.
