VietNamNet Bridge - Hundreds of people flocked to the Mien Dong bus station in HCM City from 1-2am on January 13 to purchase bus tickets for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet holiday).
They queued from 1-2am although ticket counters opened at 6am. However, many people could not buy the tickets.
The bus station was in chaos because everyone wanted to buy the tickets early and they pushed one another. The bus station guards had to work very hard to maintain order.
Nguyen Thanh Son, whose home town is the central province of Thua Thien – Hue, said he queued from 3am but when the ticket counters opened, he was informed that the tickets for the day he wanted were unavailable.
Thuong Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Mien Dong Bus Station, confirmed that there are enough bus tickets for the routes to the central region this Tet and many more tickets will be sold in upcoming days.
It is estimated that tens of thousands of people from the central provinces are working at industrial parks in HCM City. Most of them will return home to celebrate the Tet holiday with their families.
