A 30-year-old woman from Hanoi was hospitalized with multiple traumatic injuries after she slipped and fell onto a rock while taking photos at the Red River rock beach.

The victim, N.T.A. (born 1994), was transported to the 108 Central Military Hospital with a ruptured liver (grade 3), a ruptured right kidney (grade 3), chest trauma, and a fractured jaw.

According to the victim and her family, she lost her footing on a slippery surface, causing her to fall heavily onto a rock, impacting her abdomen and face.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with serious internal injuries and facial trauma.

At the 108 Central Military Hospital, doctors decided on conservative treatment for her liver and kidney injuries, while facial surgeons performed a procedure using metal plates and screws to realign her fractured jaw, restoring both chewing function and facial aesthetics.

Expert warnings on facial and trauma injuries

Dr. Le Diep Linh, head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, emphasized that facial trauma from falls, traffic accidents, and sports injuries is common.

"Older adults need to be especially cautious, as they are more prone to dizziness and falls, which can lead to serious facial injuries and disfigurement," he warned.

He also highlighted that slip-and-fall accidents are more frequent during wet and humid weather. Other causes of severe facial injuries include animal bites, firearm-related accidents, and blunt force trauma.

Such injuries can leave long-term consequences, affecting both chewing function and facial appearance if not treated properly.

First aid tips for facial injuries

Stop the bleeding: Apply pressure to wounds before transporting the patient to a hospital for further care.

Ensure proper positioning: If the patient feels dizzy, they should rest in a low-head position in a spacious, well-ventilated area.

Clear airway obstructions: If the patient is struggling to breathe due to a facial injury, attempts should be made to clear their airway, as this can significantly improve their survival chances.
