On the afternoon of March 11, Lo Thanh Tuan, chairman of the Tam Thai Commune People’s Committee in Tuong Duong District, Nghe An Province, confirmed the incident.

The victim, identified as L.V.G. (31), a resident of Canh Trap village, Tam Thai Commune, was badly burned in his groin and legs.

Phone explosion leaves man unconscious for hours

The incident occurred on the evening of March 10, after G. had consumed alcohol and was walking home. His phone suddenly exploded in his pocket, causing severe burns.

The impact left him unconscious on the roadside, and he remained there for several hours. Around 4 a.m. on March 11, locals heading to work in the fields discovered him lying motionless about 200 meters from his home. His clothing and phone were charred from the explosion.

Emergency response and hospital transfer

G.’s family rushed him to Tuong Duong District General Hospital for emergency treatment before transferring him to a provincial hospital in Nghe An for specialized care.

According to local authorities, G. remains in stable condition but has sustained severe burns on his thighs, legs, and other areas.

The incident highlights concerns about smartphone battery safety, especially regarding potential explosions caused by overheating, physical damage, or improper charging.
