Lawmakers at the ongoing first session of the 15th National Assembly elected Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 term, and member of the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term.
After being elected as Prime Minister for the new term, Pham Minh Chinh took part in the swearing-in ceremony in front of the National Assembly.
While taking the oath of office, Chinh vowed to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution, and do his best to fulfill tasks assigned by the Party, State and the people.
Earlier, legislators elected the new PM by secret ballot. A resolution on the election was adopted by all 479 deputies present, equivalent to 95.99 of total legislators. The resolution becomes effectiv right after it was approved by the NA.
Upon addressing the swearing-in ceremony, PM Chinh stated that taking on the position is a great honour but also a big responsibility to the Party, State, Government, and voters nationwide.
The Government of the 15th NA will therefore continue to inherit and promote the valuable experiences and good lessons learnt from the Government of various different periods in the past. This will be done in order to develop the current Government and administrations at all levels based on unity, integrity, discipline, effectiveness, efficiency, dynamism, innovation, creativity, and putting the interests of the nation first and foremost.
The Government will therefore remain active in implementing synchronously and effectively ideological views, a range of key tasks and solutions set out by the resolutions of the 13th Party Congress and the NA.
PM Chinh also affirmed the Party and State's readiness to share all citizen’s difficulties and hardships, both mentally and physically during the time of social distancing measures being enforced. This is amid the country’s increasingly complicated developments regarding the pandemic.
Moving forward, the top priority is to protect the lives, health, and safety of the people. In doing so, the most urgent and important task at present is to utilise wisdom, mobilise resources, and reinforce solidarity in a joint effort to combat the impact of the pandemic.
It remains essential to ensure socio-economic development in a sustainable manner, whilst proposing mechanisms and policies aimed at supporting local businesses and people in the current difficult climate, the government chief said.
The PM also went on to emphasise the task of building a pure and strong Party in the Government and administrations across all levels as a means of building a law-governed State of the people, by the people and for the people. This should be done alongside carrying out specific measures to reform the national administration, along with strengthening discipline in state management and society.
