On November 24, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Zarubezhneft – one of Russia’s leading groups in the oil and gas industry as part of his ongoing visit to the Russian Federation.
Zarubezhneft group has been involved in numerous projects in more than 30 countries, including Vietnam where it has cooperated with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) to set up two joint ventures: Vietsovpetro in 1981 and Rusvietpetro in 2008.
Party leader Trong affirmed that bilateral oil and gas and energy cooperation has proven effective and would play a key role in Vietnam-Russia relations in a long run.
Vietsovpetro has been a good example for the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership, and has made huge economic contributions to both sides. It has also been a cradle for personnel training in Vietnam’s oil and gas industry, Trong noted.
Trong said he hoped Zarubezhneft and PetroVietnam would effectively implement their signed agreements and called for the Russian group to expand operations in Vietnam.
Party leader Trong has also scheduled talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 25 and has a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Medvedev on the agenda.
