Party chief sends thank-you message to top Chinese leader

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has sent a message of thanks to Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, right after he concluded a four-day official visit to China on January 15. 

In the message, the Vietnamese Party chief appreciated General Secretary Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders for their warm reception for the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation.

He said a beautiful China with strong development and hospitable people has left a very profound impression on him and other Vietnamese delegates.

General Secretary Trong expressed his belief that positive outcomes of the visit would contribute significantly to strengthening the friendship, political trust and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China for the development of the two nations, for the sake of their people, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and in the world.

He wished that the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and comrade Xi Jinping, would reap greater successes in the cause of building a well-off society and developing China into a modern socialist nation with prosperity, democracy, civilisation and harmony.

The Vietnamese Party chief also extended his Lunar New Year greetings to comrade Xi Jinping and other top Chinese officials, wishing them good health, happiness and success.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Hanoi on January 15 afternoon, concluding their four-day official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, Party General Secretary Trong held talks with Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, and had meetings with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng, and Secretary of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Discipline Inspection Wang Qishan.

The Vietnamese Party leader also attended a function celebrating the 67th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and the Lunar New Year 2017. 

The two sides signed 15 cooperation documents in various fields and issued a 10-point joint communiqué.

Through the talks and meetings, the two sides informed each other of the situation in each country, exchanged opinions and reached consensus on deepening the relationship between the two Parties and countries in the new era. They also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

The two sides held that Vietnam and China are two neighbouring countries with long traditional friendship; both are socialist nations led by the Communist Party; and the sustainable development of each country and the friendship and good cooperation are of great importance to both nations.

The two sides consented that the Vietnam-China traditional relationship nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong and generations of leaders is a precious asset of the two Parties, States, and peoples and need to be inherited, preserved and promoted in the new situation.

The two sides agreed to maintain and increase the traditional exchanges of Vietnam-China high-ranking visits and contact, and make the best of the coordination role of exchange and cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties and countries and deepen exchanges and cooperation in diplomacy, defence, security and law enforcement.

The two sides agreed to further boost practical cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, environment, science-technology and transport, and encourage China’s major enterprises to invest in projects suitable with Vietnam’s demand and sustainable development.

Vietnam recommended China to increase the import of highly competitive Vietnamese goods and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest and do business in China.

The two sides highlighted the need to promote exchanges between the Vietnamese and Chinese people, especially young generations, to enhance their mutual understanding and friendship.

The two sides also frankly and sincerely discussed sea-related issues and agreed to boost coordination and cooperation at multilateral frameworks, together preserving peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

Official: Party chief’s China visit ends successfully

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to China from January 12-15 has been successful and achieved important results, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan said in an interview to the press at the end of the trip. 

Quan said the top leaders of the two Parties and countries reached common important perceptions of relations between Vietnam and China as well as major orientations to strengthen political trust, friendship and cooperation, maintain a peaceful and friendly environment and the trend of healthy and stable development in the bilateral ties. 

The two sides agreed to release a 10-point Joint Communiqué which highlights the need to increase high-level meetings, cooperation and exchanges between the two Parties, promote strategic connectivity, foster trade-investment ties, expand national defence-security cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen social foundations. 

Chinese President Xi Jinping accepted the Vietnamese leader’s invitation to visit Vietnam and attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit slated for late 2017. 

During the visit, 15 important documents were signed between agencies of the two Parties and nations in order to intensify cooperation in different areas, besides other economic deals inked between businesses. 

The leaders also straightforwardly, sincerely, openly discussed existing matters in bilateral ties, especially the East Sea issue, and emphasised the necessity to abide by the Agreement on Basic Principles Guiding the Settlement of Issues at Sea, fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and promptly formulate a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), well control disputes at sea, and refrain from actions that further complicate and extend disputes for peace and stability in the East Sea. 

They also agreed to expand and promote people-to-people exchanges, especially among young generations, localities and the media to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, thus laying a social foundation for bilateral relations. 

During the trip, Quan noted, the Vietnamese Party chief held talks and meetings with five out of seven permanent members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China. 

General Secretary Trong also attended a get-together celebrating the 67th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic ties, met Chinese patriotic personalities, intellectuals, officials and relatives of Chinese families who contributed to Vietnam’s revolutionary cause and Vietnam-China friendship; visited Hangzhou city of Zhejiang province; and talked with Chinese leading businesses operating in Vietnam. 

In conclusion, Quan expressed his belief that the visit would mark a significant milestone to further develop the relationship between the two Parties and nations in a healthy, positive and steady way in the future.

Party chief highlights firms’ role in Vietnam-China relations

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its economic, trade and investment ties with China, and creates favourable conditions for businesses of both countries to enhance their cooperation for the development of each nation as well as the bilateral relationship. 

During a meeting with representatives of Chinese businesses in Hangzhou city of Zhejiang province on January 15, the Vietnamese Party chief said he was delighted to visit Zhejiang, one of the most outstanding Chinese localities in terms of start-up movements, dynamism and innovation. 

He noted Vietnam and China are the largest trade partners of each other, adding that as an emerging market with a population of 92 million and an annual average growth rate of 6-7 percent, Vietnam is considered one of the most potential and attractive markets in terms of foreign investment attraction. 

General Secretary Trong welcomed Chinese enterprises investing in Vietnam with projects using advanced and environmentally-friendly technologies, with a priority given to projects in the fields of agriculture, high technology, supporting industry, clean and renewable energy, technological transfer and high-quality human resource development. 

The Vietnamese leader hoped that the two countries’ businesses would further contribute to the development of increasingly balanced and healthy bilateral trade as well as promoting tourism to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the Vietnamese and Chinese people. 

He expected that Chinese firms would improve the efficiency of cooperation with Vietnamese partners for mutual benefits in the foreseeable future. 

Vice Governor of Zhejiang province Liang Liming, expressed her hope that the meeting will help increase partnerships among Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises and localities in different fields such as high technology, logistics, agricultural production, processing and export while enhancing the friendship and exchanges between the two nations’ peoples, especially young generations. 

She told her guests that Zhejiang has long partnered with Vietnam’s central province of Thua Thien-Hue and other localities. As many as 26 Vietnamese companies have so far invested in Zhejiang while Zhejiang firms have poured more than 1.6 billion USD in more than 180 projects in Vietnam. 

Liang believed that with the guidance of the two governments and market economy regulations, cooperative ties between Chinese and Vietnamese businesses and localities will be more bustling and effective.

On this occasion, Vietnam’s Thu Ha company and China’s Huaxia Xingfu signed a contract to develop an ecological urban area in Hoa Lac of Hanoi. 

In the morning of the same day, the Party leader met staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Shanghai and visited Wan Shi Li Corporation in Zhejiang.

Party leader calls at China’s Zhejiang province

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged leaders of Zhejiang province to boost exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese localities, making practical contributions to the development of the Vietnam-China friendly and cooperative relations.

The Vietnamese Party leader made the recommendation while receiving Xia Baolong, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee of Zhejiang province, which is a stopover of his official visit to China from January 12-15.

Party General Secretary Trong said he was delighted to visit Zhejiang province where boasts beautiful landscapes and cultural traditions and President Ho Chi Minh visited many times.

He congratulated leaders and people of Zhejiang on outstanding achievements in reform process, especially in pursuing a harmony of social and economic development, developing State-owned enterprises, protecting the environment, preserving and promoting cultural traditions, improving living conditions for local people and accelerating international integration.

For his part, Xia briefed the Vietnamese delegation about the province’s socio-economic development achievements and major orientations for the coming time as well as its cooperative ties with Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities.

He stressed that economic, trade, tourism and educational cooperation between Zhejiang and Vietnamese localities are developing fruitfully, adding the provincial authorities are willing to facilitate these cooperative relations.

While in Hangzhou city, Party General Secretary Trong and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation visited the ancient town of He Fang, one of the city’s oldest and best preserved with unique characteristics at the end of Qing Dynasty.

General Secretary Trong and the delegation enjoyed the famous Long Jing tea before taking a boat trip on the West Lake, one of five most beautiful lakes in China and was recognised as world cultural heritage in 2011 by UNESCO.
