The National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations convened the 14th plenary meeting in Hanoi on November 23 to verify the Government’s report on the global situation, and the Party and State’s diplomatic activities this year.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, on behalf of the Government, presented outcomes of the Party and State’s external activities in 2015. Later, the committee delivered a draft verification report on the work.

Members of the committee agreed on almost all the content in the Government’s report, elaborating that it provided objective and accurate assessments of the regional and global situation this year.

The document also pointed out the Party and State’s diplomatic achievements, which have greatly contributed to maintaining peace and stability, optimising favourable international conditions for socio-economic development, ensuring national security, and promoting Vietnam’s regional and global stature, they said.

Participants at the meeting discussed developments in the region and the world, along with the results of the country’s international integration efforts. They also made predictions for external missions in the years to come.

NA official hosts OIF Asia Pacific Director

Deputy head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Social Affairs Nguyen Thuy Anh hosted a reception in Hanoi on November 23 for Director for Asia-Pacific of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) Eric Normand Thibeault.

Both sides discussed the OIF’s activities in Asia-Pacific and increasing the role of political, economic and cultural cooperation in the Francophone space.

Anh, who is also Chairwoman of the Vietnam Section in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), informed the guest that the APF’s seventh conference for the Asia-Pacific region will be hosted by the Vietnamese NA in Ho Chi Minh City from December 1-3.

The conference will take the themes of strengthening women’s role in parliamentary, jobs for French-speaking students after graduation and the role of French language.

Thibeault, for his part, promised to attend the conference and do his best to improve the Francophone space in the region and the world.
