VietNamNet Bridge – A survey by the National Institute of Information and Communications shows that 70 percent of graduates in Information Technology (IT) need to be re-trained to meet requirements of firms.
Majority of IT students are not even aware of their field of practice, and 72 percent lack practical experience while 42 percent show poor teamwork.
Among fresh graduates, only 15 percent meet requirements of firms, while 80 percent of fresh graduate computer programmers need re-training.
Each year, IT universities produce a huge number of graduates, with Ho Chi Minh City having provided 18,799 in 2013 alone. However, when firms set out to employ these students they find then lacking in skills and have to re-train them.
