Passengers Trieu Viet Phong (born in 1984) and Le Ngoc Dinh (born in 1987) brought with them these items aboard SU290 from Russia to Hanoi with three children. They did not declare these goods to Customs officers and did not present any papers tracing the origin of these goods.

The case is still under investigation.

In recent times, there has been an increase in illegally transporting and trading ivory via aviation due to a high consumer demand and high prices of ivory on the market.

The Customs Office at Noi Bai International Airport recently found Le Van Nam and Le Viet Duong travelling from Singapore to Hanoi hide 122.3kg of ivory inside their suitcases.
