Top 10 tech firms
The ceremony on the top 10 digital technology firms in Vietnam in 2023 was held on September 22 in Hanoi.
At the ceremony, the organizing board awarded Top 10 certificates to 41 businesses in traditional IT fields; 24 businesses operating in the fields for prioritized digital transformation; 16 firms belonging to the group of enterprises with new technology capacity; 2 pioneering commercial and service enterprises pioneering in digital technology; 2 digital startups, and 6 businesses with impressive growth rates.
The title ‘Trillion-dong digital technology firm’ was awarded to 13 companies, including CMC Global, CTIN, FPT, FPT IS, FPT Software, MobiFone Digital Service Center, NashTech Vietnam, One Mount Group, Rang Dong, Tuong Minh Software Solutions, Viettel Solutions and VNPT.
The total revenue of the honored enterprises in 2022 reached VND164.026 trillion, or $7 billion, accounting for 43.75 percent of the total revenue of the software and IT service sector in Vietnam, which is using 136,000 workers.
16th AMRI Minister Conference
The 16th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI-16) opened in Da Nang City, Vietnam, on September 22.
The event attracted the participation of representatives from nine ASEAN member countries, one observer (Timor-Leste), and three partners - Japan, South Korea and China. The theme of the conference was “Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN”.
The theme highlights the role and mission of the media sector in the new development period, when information becomes the driving force of development. Media not only provide information, but also promotes the conversion of information into knowledge so as to build a resilient ASEAN, which not only aims tomstrengthen its internal capability, but also get ready to respond to changes in the world.
A press conference was held on September 23, the closing day, in Da Nang which provided the major outcomes of the 16th AMRI and the seventh AMRI+3.
VN signs agreements on semiconductor chip development
On September 19 (local time), in Washington DC, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a working session with CEOs of the leading corporations in the US in the field of semiconductors.
The corporations praised Vietnam’s potential to develop the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, with advantages of high-quality human resources and increasingly improved capability of Vietnam’s companies and training establishments.
The participants at the event affirmed that the cooperation potential between Vietnamese and American partners is great and significant for the two countries’ relationship in the new period.
Chinh requested Vietnamese and American businesses to cooperate, gather strength and resources for certain fields which Vietnam is focusing on, including the semiconductor industry.
Three MOUs were signed on the occasion of Chinh’s working visit to the US, including one between the National Innovation Center (NIC) and Cadence Design Systems Inc on deploying activities to promote product design and development capability; between NIC and University of Arizona on human resources development for the semiconductor industry; and between the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and Intel on human resources development for hi-tech fields.
Computer virus
BKAV Corporation has warned of a kind of computer virus which can exploit the standard svchost.exe process to break deeply into the system and re-generate itself.
Though users can discover the virus and delete toxic files manually, the virus can be generated by exploiting the svchost.exe process in the system.
More dangerously, the virus can spread via USB by hiding the data in USB drive and replacing with data counterfeiting shortcuts.
After penetrating and cementing it position in victims’ computers, the virus will neutralize Window’s existing protection measures and wait for the opportunities to download toxic files in order to steal users’ information and send data to hackers’ servers.
Bkav has recommended users be cautious when using peripheral devices to copy data between computers. It is also necessary to regularly update cybersecurity solutions and copyrighted software to protect computers and systems.
Vietnamese rush to order iPhone 15
Major mobile phone retailers in Vietnam on September 22 began taking orders for iPhone 15 series.
However, when placing orders on Apple’s website, users received a notice that the products would be delivered after several days or a couple of weeks.
