Tennis player Ly Hoang Nam
Last year saw Ly Hoang Nam honoured for recording the longest winning streak in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) world tennis’ 2022 season with 24 consecutive victories. He concluded 2022 in 244th position in the global rankings.
The Tay Ninh native won one gold medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and two gold medals at the ninth National Sports Festival. In 2022, Nam was named among the 10 most outstanding national athletes of the year.
Weightlifter Pham Thi Hong Thanh
Weightlifter Pham Thi Hong Thanh amazed fans at SEA Games 31 by breaking three records in the women’s 64kg category.
The Hai Duong native managed to lift 104kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, a total of 230kg, to bag three golds at SEA Games 31.
Thanh also brought home three gold medals at the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Bahrain in October 2022.
She is currently regarded as one of the Vietnamese hopefuls at both regional and international tournaments in 2023.
Track-and-field athlete Ngan Ngoc Nghia
Ngan Ngoc Nghia, 24, from Son La province has dominated 100m, 200m, and 4x100m categories in national athletics championships since 2017.
He therefore represents the golden hope of Vietnamese sports at the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
Pencak silat athlete Quang Thi Thu Nghia
Quang Thi Thu Nghia has acquired much experience in competing at many national, regional, and international tournaments.
The 24-year-old from Son La province was the 2018 Asian Championship gold medalist, winner of the 2018 World Pencak Silat Championship, and SEA Games 31 gold medalist during her first time competing in the region’s biggest sporting event.
Footballer Bui Hoang Viet Anh
Bui Hoang Viet Anh, 24, from Thai Binh province is a key player of the Vietnamese national men’s football team and U23 team. The central defender is notable for being one of the tallest players in the senior team.
Viet Anh has played for both Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC and Hanoi FC. In 2020 he won the award for best young player in the V.League 1.
Footballer Doan Van Hau
Doan Van Hau made a strong impression for Hanoi FC's in youth tournaments and national championships, before going on to join SC Heerenveen of the Netherlands in the 2019 - 2020 season.
The Thai Binh native played for Vietnam at the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2017, with FOX Sports choosing him among 11 outstanding Asian players at the tournament.
Hau was also a member of Vietnam’s U23 that won a gold medal at SEA Games 30.
He has helped the national team to record many outstanding achievements, such as progressing through to the third qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, winning the 2018 AFF Cup, finishing fourth at ASIAD 18, and reaching the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup.
Kurash athlete To Thi Trang
To Thi Trang hailing from Hanoi was the first athlete to win a gold medal for Vietnam at SEA Games 31 in May 2022, after putting in an excellent performance in the women’s 48kg category.
Vietnamese sports represent young hopefuls that are expected to display their strength, youth, and confidence in global tournaments ahead in 2023.
