VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam scored a huge win over Malaysia in their opening game at the Asian Football Confederation's Southeast Asian region's U14 girls football competition, seeing off their rivals 7-1 at Thong Nhat Stadium in HCM City yesterday, June 18.

As one of the top challengers for the trophy and entering the match as clear favourites, Viet Nam got off to a perfect start as Nguyen Thi Nu put Viet Nam in front just eight minutes into the game.

Malaysia fashioned an equaliser with a goal from Keroline but it was the last cause for Malaysian celebration, with the team unable to match the Vietnamese girls' superior strength and skills.

Nguyen Thi Quynh, Truong Thi Thuy and Pham Thi Thu Hien added three more goals in the first half to ensure Viet Nam led 4-1 at the interval.

Viet Nam continued to control the second half. Quynh completed her hat-trick with two further strikes and Thuy notched her second to complete the 7-1 slaughter.

Viet Nam will next play the Philippines in the annual event, which also features teams from Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines.
