VietNamNet Bridge – Twelve hours after vaccination against hepatitis B, a baby girl died at the Hospital of Tuy Phong District, Binh Thuan Province on July 21.

This is the 4th death after hepatitis B vaccination in Vietnam. Just one day earlier, three infants died at a hospital in Quang Tri Province.

According to initial information, Mrs. Vo Thi Thuy, 27, a resident of Lien Huong town, Tuy Phong district, gave birth to a baby girl weighing 2.8 kg at 6 am on July 21.

At 10 am, a nurse injected the vaccine against hepatitis B into the baby.

At 10.30pm on the same day, the family discovered that the baby did not make any response so they called doctors but the baby died.

On July 22, the Binh Thuan Province Department of Health sent experts to the hospital to investigate the incident.

The local health department confirmed that the vaccine given to the baby was not in the same batch with the one in Quang Tri. The other babies in Binh Thuan who were injected with this vaccine are still healthy.

It is not determined whether the death is related to the vaccine or not.

Related to the deaths of three babies in Quang Tri Province, on July 22 the Ministry of Health suspended the use of the entire batch of this vaccine to serve the investigation.
