At 9am on Friday, the centre received information that the Thanh Nga Fishing Ship’s gas tank exploded some 41 nautical miles away from the Vung Tau Headland.

The ship had 12 seamen on board. One seaman was missing while 11 others were injured, of which seven or eight were injured seriously.

A fishing ship named Hong Ngoc nearby rescued the 11 seamen.

The centre has asked the Le Loi Hospital to treat the injured seamen and is broadcasting information as part of its efforts to search for the missing seaman.

On the same day, a fire destroyed three fishing ships in My Thanh Commune, Phu My District, in the southern province of Ben Tre.

The fishing ship had a capacity of 460CV-480CV.

The fire led to a loss of VND30 billion (US$1.3 million).

The fire started at about 3am in one fishing ship, which was at a wharf at Dam Thuy Marsh.

Local border guards, police fire prevention and control police arrived at the scene to stamp out the fire. However, since the fire occurred in the middle of the marsh and the wind was strong, they faced several difficulties.

The fire was finally extinguished at 8am.

Initial investigation showed that the fire was caused due to an electrical short-circuit.
