VietNamNet Bridge – The Magic Flute, an opera in two acts by Mozart to a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder, will be staged at HCMC Opera House at 8 p.m. on November 9 and 10 under the baton of Norwegian conductor Magnus Loddgard.

It follows the love story of Prince Tamino and the beautiful Tamina. It talks about contrasts and similarities between good and evil, day and night, men and women and passion and will. Tamino and Tamina have to go through many difficulties to find true love.

The work premiered in 1791 at Schikaneder’s theater, the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna.

The opera is staged by chorusmaster: Lars Notto Birkeland, tenor Magnus Staveland (Tamino), soprano Cho Hae Ryong, Vo Thuy Ngoc Tuyen (Tamina), baritonist Halvor F. Melien, coloratura soprano Hege Gustava Tjonn in the role of The Queen of the Night, bass Derek Anthony and tenor Tran Duy Linh.

Audiences will also have a chance to witness the talents of concertmaster Sveinung Lillebjerka and Brass Quintet from Norway as well as HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).

The program is organized by HBSO in cooperation with Transposition Program – Norway.

Tickets are on sale at HBSO Box Office at 7 Lam Son Square, District 1, at VND650,000, VND550,000, VND400,000 per guest and VND150,000 for students. Guests will be given a 10% discount for bookings made before Thursday.

Loddgard is a pianist and experienced conductor who finished his undergraduate study in piano and conducting in 2003 with professor Ole Kristian Ruud and postgraduate study in Orchestral Conducting at Norwegian Academy of Music in 2005.

He is now working as the principal conductor of ensemble neoN (new ensemble of Norway). He has vast experience in conducting Norwegian orchestras and ensembles.
