The northern region of Vietnam has been forecasted to have a hotter summer this year.
According to the Meteorological and Hydrological Administration, the highest temperature in northern and central localities would be concentrated between April and August.
In the first half of this year, the average temperature in Vietnam would be equal to that of many previous years. Meanwhile, in the second half of the year, the temperatures would be higher than in many years.
In 2023, around 11-13 tropical depressions and storms would occur in the East Sea, including 5-6 to be likely to affect Vietnam.
The rainfall this year would be lower or similar to the annual level.
The Meteorological and Hydrological Administration has warned of bad weather such as torrential rain and strong storms this year.
From February to July, the water level of many rivers in the northern region like Da, Thao and Lo would be 20-40 percent lower than during the same period last year.
In the dry season, the water level on rivers in the central and Central Highlands region would also be 20-40 percent lower than in many previous years.
Meanwhile, saline intrusion in the southern region in 2023 would be equal to last year. The peak time for saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta region would be in February and March.
