In the morning of January 6, for the first time of the winter, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasts issued warnings about prolonged damaging cold weather (average day time temperature below 15 and 13 degrees Celsius.)

According to this agency, from 30/12/2012, the northern and north-central provinces have suffered from cold weather. The average daily temperature is from 11 to 14 degrees Celsius and 7-10 degrees Celsius in the mountains. In some mountainous areas, the average temperature is very low, such as Sapa (Lao Cai province) 0.5°C, Mau Son (Lang Son) 0.1°C, the ice appears.

Scorching cold weather has seriously affected the live of the northern people. The number of the elderly and children catching respiratory disease, cardiovascular diseases have increased strongly. On January 5 and today, January 7, all elementary schools closed.

The meteorological agency said, in the next two to three days, the temperature in the northern and north-central provinces will increase slightly, but still remain at the threshold of damaging cold weather.

At night on January 8 and early morning of January 9, there will be more cold air so the state of damaging cold weather in the northern provinces will continue at least until January 13-14.
