A proposed 174 km high-speed rail link from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho is under review, aiming to enhance connectivity and boost regional development before 2030.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport has announced that construction of the high-speed North-South railway will begin in December 2027, with completion expected by 2035.

The Ministry of Transport has formed a dedicated task force to oversee the implementation of the North-South high-speed railway project, a key infrastructure initiative for Vietnam’s development.

Vietnam’s ambitious $67 billion North-South high-speed rail, designed to cut travel time between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to just 5.5 hours, is moving closer to reality.

The ruling Party and Government have stated their commitment to prioritising Vietnamese enterprises in the execution of the project.

The preliminary total investment for the project is estimated at VNĐ1.7 quadrillion (around US$67.34 billion). To ensure its progress and success, 19 special policies have been proposed.

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has been asked to adjust the routes of railway sections going through the cities of Dong Hoi, Hue and Nha Trang to be sure that stations won’t be located in flooded areas.
