When the expansion project is completed in 2026 as planned, the total passenger handling capacity of the airport would exceed 30 million.
Currently, preparations are underway for the expansion project, including the widening of aircraft stands. An international consultant, funded by the Government of France, has completed a comprehensive study on the Noi Bai International Airport plan.
The plan is currently under review and is anticipated to receive approval from relevant authorities in 2024.
Meanwhile in southern Vietnam, the construction of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC is in progress, with an annual capacity of 20 million passengers. The new terminal is scheduled to be ready next year, boosting Tan Son Nhat’s capacity to 50 million passengers a year.
To complement the construction of Terminal T3, road upgrade and expansion projects are also underway around Tan Son Nhat, including Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa. When in place, they would facilitate the future operation of Terminal T3 and alleviate traffic congestion around the airport.
