VietNamNet Bridge - The world-famous limbless man returned to Vietnam for the second time last night to talk to the Vietnamese audience.
Nick Vujicic arrived at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City last night. Because of some small problems at the airport, he did not arrive at his hotel until nearly midnight.
This time, Vujicic will stay a week in Vietnam to meet with and talk with people in unfortunate circumstances. He will attend two galas in HCM City on May 21 and in Hanoi on May 24, where the outstanding disabled are honored for their contributions to the society.
This morning Vujicic met with the local media in HCM City. In the afternoon he had an online interview with readers of an online newspaper.
Vujicic was born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, to a family of Serbian origin. He suffered from tetra-amelia syndrome, a very rare congenital disorder. He has no arms and his two legs are very small and cannot aid him in movement.
But, as Vujicic says: "If you cannot have a miracle, let yourself become a magical thing." He became an example of winning over fate. Vujicic gradually realized that the life is still good even without limbs or the ability to easily do the things normal people take for granted.
From a state of being totally dependent on others to do the most basic things, like going to the toilet, eating, or dressing, Nick slowly learned to gain a measure of self-sufficiency. He practiced writing by using two toes of his left foot (which he calls "the chicken leg") and doing other things like taking a glass of water, combing his hair, brushing his teeth, and answering the phone.
He can use computers and type 45s words a minute using his "heel and toes". He has also learned how to throw tennis balls, play drums, golf, swim and even skydive.
